"...The genus Daucus consists of about 30 species, including
annuals, biennials, and perennials, found mostly in Europe,
Africa, and western Asia; a few species occur in the Americas
and Australia (Small 1978b). The centre of distribution is the
Mediterranean Circle countries. None of the species is native
to Canada. Only one species, discussed below, has been
domesticated, although several have been employed
in folk medicine..."
