There is some confusion between botanical researchers. The
common cultivated radish, "R. sativus", may be it's own
species, or a domesticated offshoot of "R. raphanistrum",
a Mediterranean weed, or possibly even the Japanese daikons.
Radishes are short season crops that are often planted in the
early spring and late summer. The long hot summer days cause
radishes to bolt into seed and become woody. Because of their
shallow root systems, they should be planted in light fluffy soil
heavy in organic material. Successive crops can be planted
weekly to ensure a full harvest, and the season may be started
early in a cold frame.
The tiny seeds of the cabbage are easily planted using
the Tiny Tim Seeder.
