[Family Tree] [Plant List]

The Sedge Family is made up of grass-like plants with characteristic triangular stems and the associated three directions that the leaves branch away from the stem as opposed to the two directions of common grasses. Many of the sedges prefer wet swampy areas, including the many species of bulrushes growing in shallow areas of lakes, and the giant papyrus with which the ancient Egyptians made paper.
