Genus = Gentianopsis
Species = G. crinita
"...The fringed gentian (Gentianopsis crinita), a New
England native, is a biennial which cannot persist without
limy soil in the kind of open, moist meadows that have not
been common in New England since the early farms were
abandoned. This species needs to produce a lot of seeds
to maintain itself in its few remaining strongholds, and
the last thing it needs is to be dug or to have its flowers
picked, although it can be maintained in gardens under
certain very exacting conditions, not the least of which
is annual re-seeding..."

*NOTE*
Threatened species of plantlife should be purchased from
reputable conservation nurseries and not dug from the wild.
The only exception is to relocate a plant in the path of
development, and then research the conditions necessary
for the plant. Protect yourself from fines by contacting
your local Department of Natural Resources and/or any
local conservation societies.
